Chord Map

Every chord has a function in the key. The colour shows which.

Three rules on the basic level

1. Primary chords mix freely.
2. A secondary dominant resolves to the chord below it on the map.
3. Borrowed chords are reached from and return to I, IV and V (i, iv and V in minor).

Advanced

Adds tritone substitutes, ii–V pairs, dominant chains, deceptive resolutions and more borrowed chords.

How to play

Tap a chord. A yellow ring marks the allowed next steps, a dot the strongest. Start the loop and drive it with the chords, or connect a MIDI keyboard. Space plays and stops.
